Jordan Roth

About

Jordan Roth is a multi-disciplinary artist at the intersection of performance, fashion, and design.

Situated at the intersection of performance, art, and fashion, Jordan Roth’s multi-disciplinary practice brings together themes that explore the dynamics of beauty, spectatorship, and the capacity for self-transformation.

At the locus of Roth’s practice is the physical body, a site upon which acts of bodily adornment—fashion, makeup, and other embellishments—enact rituals of metamorphosis, creating a cycle in which performance itself transcends into a state of self-becoming. Weaving personal history within the narrative of performance, Roth’s work draws influence from the worlds of fashion and theater, fusing both to formulate new vocabularies and pathways for realizing the promise of selfhood. Integral to Roth’s practice is the foregrounding of performance as a collective engagement, one in which audience and performer come together to encounter the ecstatic joy of self-discovery.

Roth’s emphasis on the body’s capacity for internalized self-becoming can be situated amidst a lineage of performance artists for whom themes of self-mythology, theatricality, and process are incorporated. Roth’s first public performance piece, Radical Acts of Unrelenting Beauty, to be performed at the Musée du Louvre, will be followed up by new exhibitions and performances at institutions around the world.
